Group Visits
BUILD TOGETHER
Grow, build, and learn together
We welcome groups interested in visiting us for land restoration and land tours. We can accommodate groups of up to 20 people and offer several ways to explore the land:
Heron’s Nest Site Tour (1 hour)
Land Restoration (~3 hours)
Herring's House & HƏʔAPUS Village Tour (1 hour)
Duwamish Longhouse Self-Guided Tour (30 min)
Land Restoration (3 hours)
Land restoration starts with a 30–45 minute land tour and project orientation, followed by 1.5 hours of service work, and ends with a 30 minute clean up. We build in 15 minutes of flex time.
Depending on the time of year, volunteer activities may include: landscaping, plant removal, planting, trail maintenance, or mulching. Gloves and tools are provided, but please dress for the weather (sun or rain protection) and wear close-toed shoes, hiking boots, or work boots. Be prepared to get dirty.
We typically ask for a staffing fee of $250–$400, based on visit timeframe and group size. If this presents a barrier, please let us know — we’re happy to discuss alternatives.
Land Tours (1 to 2.5 hours)
There are several options for land tours, which may be done individually or combined.
Heron's Nest Site Tour (45–60 minutes): A walk-and-talk tour exploring our mission to return land to the Duwamish Tribe, current on-site projects, and forest restoration work. Weather permitting, the tour may include walking the greenbelt trail to the Duwamish Longhouse.
Herring's House Park and həʔapus Village Park Tour (1 hour): Starting at the Duwamish Longhouse, we walk across the street and discuss the past, present, and future of industrialization and colonization of the Duwamish River.
Duwamish Longhouse Tour (30 min): A self-guided tour of the Duwamish Longhouse after the riverside tour can help solidify some of the things that we talked about throughout the day.
We typically ask for a staffing fee of $150–$350, based on visit timeframe and group size. If this presents a barrier, please let us know — we’re happy to discuss alternatives.
